Bridging the gap
between medicine and fitness
Mission Statement
Our
mission is to bridge the gap between medicine and fitness by
organizing the efforts of scientists, researchers, practitioners and
health professionals, and integrating those efforts to provide
resources, credentials and continuing education to people in the
health and fitness
industry.
About our
Philosophy
Fitness professionals seek credibility. The
National Institute of Health Science leads the way with education
based, higher learning center backed credentials. We’re not just
another certificate program. The NIHS believes that education and
learning never ends. That’s why we have created a series
of specialized subjects above and beyond personal
trainer such as Shoulder Specialist, Hip Specialist, Knee
Specialist, Soft Tissue Pain Specialist, Senior Fitness
Specialist, and Back Specialist. We don’t provide you a single
generalized certification. We continue to build your resume with
dozens of specialized certificates in multiple disciplines
in order to allow you to market yourself in a more proactive way. We
at the NIHS can prepare you as a specialist in specific
disciplines, or give you a firm eclectic base for use in the
ever-widening industry of fitness
The current industry trends indicate that the
present direction of personal training will be towards specialized
training and health care reform. In order to be a part of this
change, trainers will need to be able to provide better than
"outstanding" care to those with limitations and health care
challenges. Future trainers will need to not only provide quality
exercise programming, but also be able to interact with physicians
for proactive aftercare programming. Services will need to be
offerred at a reasonable cost to insurance companies and patrons and
trainers will be required to manage client information in a
professional and confidential manner.
For trainers this means more education and
expertise in fitness and health. It means the ability to prescreen
client's for possible health problems and the ability to work with
both physician and insurance companies for the reduction of health
care cost. Yet to decrease costs you need to manage and act on
information in a preventative environment. That requires a better
education than a single personal training certificate can
supply.
For personal trainers the horizon appears
ripe and exciting; but only for those who are prepared academically
to work with the larger portion of the population, the baby boomers
and seniors. Working with these groups will be far more complex than
working with the apparently healthy; it will require an
understanding of health care and treatment, as well as the ability
to interact with health care professionals. We have moved beyond the
concept of exercise to grow a bigger bicep and into an era of
exercise for the improvement of life skills and the prevention of
disease. Are you ready? The future belongs to the trainers who have
prepared for the opportunity by increasing knowledge, credentials
and who possess an understanding of where the industry bar should be
placed, not where it currently resides.
